This week is special in Malta. On the 15th of August, the Feast of Santa Maria or the Assumption of Our Lady to Heaven is celebrated. Probably, Santa Maria is Malta’s most celebrated Festa, which is also a national public holiday.
The towns that celebrate the feast of the Assumption are Hal Għaxaq, Gudja, Attard, Mosta, Mqabba, Qrendi and Victoria. Each village puts up an excellent display of traditional Maltese fireworks and a Festa atmosphere.
Joining in is an opportunity to participate in a long tradition that has been around since the 16th century. Maltese festas are renowned for their street decorations, religious processions, marching bands and food stalls. Maltese families adorn their homes and churches are illuminated with lights, inside and out.
Please be noticed, our school will be closed on August, 15th, due to this public holiday.
